After careful consideration, we have decided to no longer broadcast the program of Open Broadcast on DAB digital radio. Since early 2010, Open Broadcast was digitally receivable in the agglomerations of Zurich, Basel and Berne. In the future, the program will continue to be available worldwide trough our web stream. The DAB signal is turned off in the next few days.

The reasons why we decided to abandon DAB broadcasting, are the high costs involved. Under the current license conditions, legal digital radio is only affordable to those who are ready to spend several hundred-thousand swiss-francs per year. Under these conditions our company is no longer willing to pay for a technology, which could be available more favorable.

Starting mid-May, the Open Broadcast Platform will also be used by non-commercial radio stations as a promotional platform for new music releases as well as a collective digital archive.

The International Radio Festival presents a morning of short key note speeches offering an insight from some of the world’s pioneers within the radio industry.

Each key note speech will run for aprx 20-25 minutes, followed by a short round of audience Q&A’s thereafter. Speakers may make use of a projector should they wish to present visuals.

At the end of the key note speeches, all speakers will join as one panel to jointly discuss what the future holds for radio, within the increasingly saturated and fast paced internet era. The audience will also be invited to participate in the panel discussion.

Key note speakers:

- Tony Prince, London: One of the very first pirate radio pioneers, and founder of DMC World and MixMag
- Roger Schawinski, Radio 1, Zürich: Switzerland’s pirate radio pioneer, and re-inventor of Swiss radio
- Maarten Brouwer, Director of “This Is Africa”: Pioneers in setting up community radio stations in Africa
- Brian Joseph & Omar Husain, CJLO FM, Montreal: Acclaimed campus radio run by students
- Jon Manuel, Wild FM, San Francisco; Award winning radio with an award winning radio jockey
- Thomas Gilgen, Open Broadcast; co-founder of Switzerland’s first user generated radio platform

The panel is held in English and is moderated by: Darryl von Däniken, Partner, International Radio Festival
